SOFTBALL FALLS TO PENN ST.-BERKS IN NEAC PLAYOFFS

Reading, Pa.-  The Wells College softball team had their season come to an end yesterday afternoon falling to the No. 3 seed Penn. St. Berks 3-0 in the opening round of the North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship Tournament on Tuesday in Reading, Pa. No. 6 seed Wells ends their season with a record of 12-14 (10-10 NEAC), while Berks improves to 16-19 (14-7 NEAC).

Berks opened up the scoring up in the bottom of third plating two runs on four hits to take a 2-0 lead. The Nittany Lions extended their lead in the following inning, scoring one run, as Berks shutdown Wells the rest of the way to advance to the weekends double-elimination tournament at Keuka College.

Brittany Stanton and Juli Vibbard delivered the only two hits for the Express. Lorelei Meier suffered the loss on the mound tossing six innings allowing three earned runs. while striking out three.

Marrissa Ruggerio paced the Nittany Lions with two hits and one RBI. Ashley Warner earned the win on the mound tossing a complete game, scattering two hits, while striking out seven.

The 12 wins by the softball team marks the most in program history in the last nine years in which the previous nine teams combined to win just 15 games.
