Men’s Volleyball Team Unveils Championship Banner

The Wells College men's volleyball team unveiled its championship banner after finishing in the Elite 8 of the 2019 NCAA D-III National Tournament and then took care of the business at hand with a pair of sweeps against visiting SUNY Poly and Elmira.

In the opening match against Poly, the Express took two of three sets by 10 points or more against the Wildcats that gave Wells its second conference win in as many days. Wells took the first set at 25-15, the second at 25-6 and the third with a 25-18 win.

Robert Patzer recorded a .421 hitting percentage while delivering a team-high 11 kills, while current NEAC Men's Volleyball Player of the Week Caden O'Loughlin added nine kills.

Kevin Batmunkh had a team-high eight digs with Justin Williams not far behind with a half-dozen and a team-leading pair of blocks.

In the second match against the Soaring Eagles, the Express won by set scores of 27-25, 25-22 and 25-16 in a non-conference match.

O'Loughlin hit at .462 percent while registering a team-high 14 kills to lead the Express. Patzer added 10 kills, a team-high seven digs and a pair of aces.

Williams registered three blocks, while Joe Zimmerman added a pair of aces and Batmunkh recorded a half-dozen digs.

The men's volleyball team next hosts Penn State-Altoona and Daemen on Friday, Feb. 14.
