Opening Flurry Not Enough as Express Fizzle Out vs Hiram

AURORA, NY - The Express men's volleyball team started out hot against fellow AMCC foe Hiram on Saturday afternoon, but saw their momentum gradually disappear as Hiram got rolling late en-route to a 3-1 victory.

The Wells squad started off the game with 8 straight points, going up 8-0 in the blink of an eye thanks to some great serving from sophomore Harrison Keena. They then built on their advantage, going blow for blow against the Terriers but always maintaining that huge starting lead to take the first set 25-14.

From there, Hiram found their footing and used a blend of quick-attacks and good blocking to cool off the scorching Express, as the Terriers took the next 3 sets in a 3-1 win.

Some starpower from the two Express seniors, Billy McCrae and Connor Garvey kept the Express in it, as they spiked down 8 and 7 kills respectively.

Mason Moon, fresh off of his entry to the 1,000 assist club, also aided in 22 kills on the day.

The Express had a balanced defensive day, with Jacob Sehn recording a game-high 6 digs, as well as Moon, Garvey, and Qulik Evans who each added 4 digs.

In the end, it was an uneasy serving performance that did them in, logging 14 service errors in the 4-set matchup.

The Express will look to bounce back on Wednesday when they travel to take on Thiel in the second of seven straight AMCC matchups to end the year.
