EXPRESS EDGE OUT NITTANY LIONS

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's tennis team won four of five singles matches to earn a thrilling 5-4 victory over the Penn. St. Harrisburg Nittany Lions in North Eastern Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon in Aurora. With the victory the Express improve to 3-4 on the season.

The Express trailed 1-2 after doubles action. Kate Ellis and Chika Taguchi earned the only victory defeating No. 1 Nittany Lions duo of Gabby LeGendre and Theo Avaramidis 8-6. Caitlyn Copfer and Brittany Vanno nearly pulled out a victory at No. 2 doubles falling 9-8 in a final set tie breaker (7-2).

Singles action battled the setting sun in Aurora forcing pro sets. At No. 1 singles, Taguchi defeated LeGendre in three sets (6-7, 6-4, 10-4). Ellis earned the victory at No. 2 singles (6-0, 4-6, 10-1). Copfer kept things rolling at No. singles earning and 8-6 victory, while Vanno wrapped up the match at No. 4 singles defeating Jordan Simpkins 8-5 to earn the conference victory.

The Express return to action on Thursday, April 12 when they take on Keuka College at 4 p.m. in Aurora.
