Men’s Basketball Team’s Rally Falls Short in NEAC Opener

The Wells College men's basketball team opened North Eastern Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Dec. 7 by hosting Penn State-Harrisburg.

The Express had impressive rallies in both halves before the Nittany Lions staged a late second half run to gain control and beat Wells by a 78-61 final.

Wells trailed by as much as nine in the first half but a Ty McBride jumper brought the Express within a bucket at the break that ended a 9-2 Express run.

Wells carried that momentum into the second and a Zach D'Arpino three gave the Express its first lead since early in the game at 38-37 minutes into the second.

Midway through the second it was a two-score game at 54-48 in favor of the Nittany Lions when they went on a 17-5 run in a five-minute span to break open the game that was aided by four threes. Penn State finished the contest with more than half their points coming from beyond the arc with 15 threes on the day.

D'Arpino had a team-high 11 points. Izaiah McPherson, Jalen Tribble, Quentin Battle and McBride all finished with nine points each. Tribble led the team in rebounds with nine

The men's basketball team plays its next game on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 1 p.m. at NEAC foe Gallaudet.
