Bio

Tim Darnell joined the coaching staff for the Wells College men's basketball team prior to the 2015-16 season. A long-time coach at the high school level within the Finger Lakes region, Darnell also served as an Assistant Coach for the 1998 SUNYAC Championship squad from SUNY Geneseo.

Darnell joins the Express from Auburn High School in Auburn, N.Y. where he served two stints as the boys' varsity basketball coach, first from June 2009 to March 2012 and once again from May 2013 to March 2015. During his time with the Maroons, he claimed the Central New York Counties League (CNYCL) American Division Championship in 2011, earning Section III Class AA Coach of the Year recognition. He also served as coach for current Express players Chris Courtney and James Feocco.

He also served two stints as the boys' varsity basketball coach for the Union Springs Central School District, amassing an impressive 105-60 record across eight seasons. Claiming the Section IV Class C Championship in 2007-08 after winning the Interscholastic Athletic Conference League Title, he also picked up a conference championship in 2005-06 after a strong campaign.

His squad was also a Section IV Class C finalist in 2004-05 and was an IAC Division III Regular Season Co-Champion the very next year. The Wolves were also winners of four-straight Team Sportsmanship Awards from 2006 to 2009. He was also tabbed to coach the IAC All-Star Basketball team in 2005 and 2008.

Darnell began his high school coaching career within the Clyde-Savannah Central School District, earning back-to-back Wayne County League Championships in 2000 and 2001. Winners of the Section V Class C Championship in 2000 and piloting his team to the Class C Finals in 2001, Darnell's overall record with the boys' basketball team at Clyde-Savannah was 59-11. He was selected as the 2000 Wayne County Basketball Coach of the Year for his efforts.

A 1997 graduate of SUNY Cortland with a degree in Physical Education, Darnell was a four-year veteran of the Red Dragons basketball team, serving as a two-time team captain where he went on to set program records in most three-point field goals in a season (92) and the highest three-point field goal percentage in a single season (47.2%).

The former record holder in the SUNYAC for three-point field goals in a season (61), Darnell was a recipient of the Red Letter Award (Team MVP) in 1997 en route to being named his school's Outstanding Senior Male Athlete of the Year the very same season. He earned ECAC Basketball Honor Roll on five-separate occasions and was a two-time First Team All-SUNYAC selection in addition to other honors from the ECAC and the NABC.

He also received his master's degree in Physical Education from SUNY Brockport in 2001. In addition to his coaching duties with the Express, Darnell serves as an Elementary Physical Education Teacher for the Union Springs Central School District.
