Senior Spotlight: Erin Persons

Senior Spotlight: Erin Persons

With the cancellation of the remainder of the spring season and the winter championships, at least one Wells College senior spring student-athlete will be highlighted each weekend. Today's featured student-athlete is senior Erin Persons from the women's lacrosse team.

Erin is a biological sciences: health sciences major from Nassau, N.Y. who plays defense for the Express.

Wells women's lacrosse coach Meg Milliman had the following to say about Erin, "My only regret about Erin is that she did not play lacrosse all four years at Wells.  She is a phenomenal teammate who is one of the most passionate lacrosse players I have ever come across.  She succeeds every day at inspiring others to do their absolute best for the good of the team."

Over her lacrosse career at Wells, she appeared in 16 games and started 15 while accumulating 14 groundballs, winning a pair of draw controls and forcing 17 caused turnovers.

During the shortened 2020 season, Erin started both games the team played and compiled a pair of assists, two groundballs and three caused turnovers.

During the 2019-20 season, Erin was also a member of the women's soccer team.

In addition to her on-field contributions, Erin has aided the athletic department over the years with her photography skills, many of which have been often featured on the Express' website.

Why did you choose Wells College?

I chose Wells College because it gave me the opportunity to continue my athletic career while also having a close relationship with professors, peers and the community.

What is your favorite memory at Wells College as a student-athlete?

My favorite memories from being a student-athlete are all of the pre-game locker room parties and fun we had together.

What are your plans after Wells College?

After Wells I am staying locally and working at Ledyard Farms, a Morgan horse breeding farm while I apply to veterinary school.

What advice would you give to the next person wearing your number?

To the person who wears No. 20, I urge you to focus on the present and to not get caught up in the what-ifs and could've-beens. There will be laughs and there will be tears, triumphs and defeats. So, enjoy your time in the classroom, with friends, on the field and with the family you will join and carry with you forever. Because while we love the sports we play, they will one day end, so just enjoy the time you have and don't take it for granted.

If you had a favorite class during your time at Wells College, what was it and why was it your favorite?

I don't know that I ever really had a favorite class. I enjoyed some and despised others. I did enjoy most classes with Professor Burwell and if I really had to choose, I would probably say organic chemistry because we had a lot of opportunities to work independently and get creative designing our own experiments.

What will you miss the most about being a student-athlete at Wells College?

As cliché as it might be, it won't be the games I miss the most. It will be the toughest of practices as we pull each other up and cheer each other on. It will be the banter that goes on in quite conversations as one-on-one drills. It will be watching coach dance to the music in a way no one could ever match. I will miss sitting in the dining hall after they close talking about everything and nothing, and laughing until we cry. I will miss being part of the "secret club" known as Student-Athletes. And I will miss being part of a family that I will never be able to experience in the same way again.
