Women’s Lacrosse Team Sets Season Highs in Non-Conference Tilt

AURORA, N.Y. - The Wells College women's lacrosse team continued to show improvement despite dropping a non-conference matchup to visiting Cazenovia College on Saturday, March 27. The team set season highs offensively in goals in a half with five and goals in a game with seven.

The Wildcats had the hot start with a double-digit, first-half offensive showing, but despite the deficit, the Express continued to battle through a close second half that was separated by just a pair of goals.

Offensively, the trio of Kayla Rowell (Cicero, N.Y.), Mackenzie Powers (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Clara Lima (Hastings Hudson, N.Y.) accounted for all the scoring for Wells. Powers finished as the points leader with four after notching a pair of goals and a pair of assists. Both Rowell and Lima tallied three points apiece with Rowell collecting a team-high three goals and Lima registering a pair of goals and one assist on the day.

Defensively, Lauren Spiegel (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) recorded 14 saves with seven in each half. The team won the groundball battle by an 18-17 margin that was aided by the Express' best showing to date in draw controls.

Leading the team in groundballs with three each was Lydia Thomas (Colton, N.Y.), Isabella Ciancio (Clinton, N.Y.) and Spiegel, while a pair each came from Magdalen Garrity (Hudson, N.Y.), Danielle Radivoy (Otisville, N.Y.) and Powers. Also contributing to the groundball totals was Mollie Walts (Cortland, N.Y.), Anna Bernatavitz (Elmira, N.Y.) and Lima.

The women's lacrosse team completes a three-game homestand on Friday, April 2 with a 3 p.m. start.
