Women's Lacrosse Opens up 2024 Season with a Win

New London, CT-

Wells College Women's Lacrosse opened up their 2024 season Saturday with a commanding 22-3 win versus the Mariners of Mitchell College.  The Express had 11 different goal scorers in their first outing, also sharing the ball with 9 assists on the 22 goals scored.  Wells got off to a fast start, outscoring the Mariners 4-1 in the first quarter with four different Express players scoring goals.  A strong second quarter opened the game up, starting with a dominance on the draw control by first year Hannah Lamont and senior Lydia Thomas.  Lamont ended the game with 13 draw controls, setting the tone for Wells possessions. The Express cruised through the remaining two quarters, capitalizing on a strong defensive effort, creating 24 turnovers and picking up 22 ground balls

Leading the way in the scoring column for Wells was first year attacker Jade Epp, who had 5 goals on 9 shots on goal. First year Mariah Stephens added 3 goals off 3 shots on goal for a strong first game.  Also scoring 2 goals each was Logan Lomonaco, Julia Barnwell, Lamont, Isabella Ciancio, and Olivia Garcia.

In goal for Wells was senior Lauren Spiegel, who allowed two goals and first year Taelor Cid, who allowed one goal and had one save.

The Express are continuing their road trip on Sunday, February 25th against Albertus Magnus at 12:00pm.
