Spiegel Notches 300th Save as Express Stay Unbeaten vs SUNY Poly

AURORA, NY - The Wells College Women's Lacrosse team stopped a late SUNY Poly surge on Wednesday night to keep the 0 in their loss column and get away with their program-record 7th straight win to begin the 2024 season. 

A massive chunk of those Express stops were secured by one player alone, as senior goalie Lauren Spiegel saved an incredible 19 shots en-route to the 13-11 victory over the Wildcats. Spiegel was a fortress on the night, getting saves with her net, stick, and even at one point, her cleats. The 19 saves shot the senior well above the 300th mark, shattering the milestone as she provided all the Express needed to grab yet another hard-fought win. 

Despite the extremely noteworthy performance from Spiegel, the Express offense also held up its end of the bargain, with first year Hannah Lamont putting up a ridiculous stat line of 4 goals, 2 assists, 2 ground balls, and 12 draw controls. Lamont and the Express have been no strangers to the draw, as their nation-leading draw control percentage was evident throughout the match, leading to Wells winning the draw control battle by a 18-8 margin. 

Reigning AMCC Player of the Week Logan Lomonaco also got in on the draw success, winning 5 draw controls and also adding to her conference-leading scoring marks by logging 2 goals and 1 assist. 

Jade Epp rounded out the Express offense by scoring 4 goals while also grabbing 2 ground balls.

Former AMCC Defensive Player of the Week Mariah Stephens also put together another great performance, securing 7 ground balls and a goal while also shutting down myriad Wildcat attacks.

The Express used the many different contributions of their vast and talented lineup to grab another victory en-route to an AMCC showdown against Mount Aloysius on Saturday. The pre-season AMCC favorite Mounties will travel to Aurora seeking to upend what has been an unblemished season so far for the Express. That AMCC headliner will take place at noon this Saturday.
