Five Wells Women’s Lacrosse Players Named to All-NEAC Team

LATHAM, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its 2021 Women's Lacrosse All-Conference Teams as well as its major award winners. Five members of the Wells women's lacrosse team were selected to the all-conference teams that included Anna Bernatavitz (Elmira, N.Y.), Clara Lima (Hastings Hudson, N.Y.), Mackenzie Powers (Syracuse, N.Y.), Lauren Spiegel (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) and Mollie Walts (Cortland, N.).

The five Express all-conference players are represented in the team's top-two in eight statistical collective categories that include: goals, assists, points, groundballs, draw controls, caused turnovers, shots and shots on goal.

Lauren Spiegel was selected to the first team as its lone goalie. The freshman keeper started all eight games and made 100-plus saves during the season with a near 45 percent save percentage, while leading the team in groundballs with 24. Spiegel also picked up a NEAC Defensive Player of the Week accolade during the abbreviated season.

Selected as second-team defenders were Anna Bernatavitz and Mollie Walts. The latter is the team's senior captain who finished tied-second on the team in both groundballs with 17 and caused turnovers with four, while the former is a freshman who also finished tied-second on the team in caused turnovers with four.

Selected as second-team midfielders were Clara Lima and Mackenzie Powers. Lima, a freshman, led the team in points with 15, goals with 12, draw controls with 33 and caused turnovers with a half-dozen. Powers, a junior, led the team in assists with a half-dozen and finished second in both points with 12 and draw controls with 14.

All-Conference is composed of two teams, each comprised of three attackmen, three midfielders, three defenders, one goalie and two at-large bids. The conference has also awarded the Offensive Player of the Year, the Defensive Player of the Year, the Rookie of the Year and the Coach of the Year. Those recipients include Kendal Ream, Kadi Denney, Maddie Baum and Cheri Horst, respectively.
