Softball Team Returns to Action in Non-Conference DH

The Wells College softball team returned to the Wells Turf Field for the first time in nearly two seasons to face visiting SUNY Delhi on Tuesday, March 30. Wells made a nice rally in the first doubleheader game. Albeit Delhi's first at-bat in the second game, the Express played the Broncos the remainder of the contest to a one-run game.

Game 1:  Delhi 12  Wells 4

After trailing by a half-dozen runs midway through the contest, Wells rallied with a big four-run fourth to draw within a pair. A Jenna Devora (San Antonio, Tx.) 2-RBI single scored the first two runs of the season for the Express. Later in the inning, Olivia Maish (Palmdale, Calif.) doubled to score Morgan Adams (Waverly, N.Y.) for the team's fourth run. The Express was poised to take the lead the following inning after loading the bases, but the Bronco defense foiled Wells' efforts.

In addition to Adams, runs also came from Erin Normile (Binghamton, N.Y.), Serina Sheradin (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and Devora. Sheradin and Hannah Harmon (Spencer, N.Y.) also registered hits on the day with the former plating a double.

Devora went the distance from the mound and allowed 13 hits with nine strikeouts.

Game 2:  Delhi 10  Wells 2

Delhi came out hot with a seven runs in their first at-bat, but after that Wells stayed strong in a 3-2 game the rest of the way.

Normile led the way for the Express with a pair of hits that included a double and an RBI single. Wells finished with seven hits in the second game with solo hits by Maish, Sheradin, Jennifer McCumber (Albany, N.Y.), Adams and Tori Miller (Buffalo, N.Y.), with the latter recording a double.

Maish and Sheridin had the Wells runs, while Maish took the loss from the mound. Devora came in relief and added an RBI in the contest.

The softball team next begins its conference slate with a doubleheader against visiting Lancaster Bible College on Saturday, April 3 starting at 11:30 a.m.
