Express Lose Steam in Tiring 2-Game Doubleheader vs La Roche

PITTSBURGH, PA - Less than 24 hours after a grueling back-and-forth 2-game battle against Pitt. - Greensburg, the Express softball squad was back to work as they bolted over to La Roche for another 2-game set, this time against the Redhawks. Despite giving Greensburg an emphatic challenge just 1 day prior, the Express ran out of juice in their 3rd and 4th games of the weekend to fall to La Roche by scores of 11-0 and 13-5.

Despite suffering a shutout in game 1, the Express were able to put bat-on-ball in the 2nd bout, garnering 4 hits and causing mass havoc on the basepaths in a 5-run effort.

The 4th inning of game 2 was a microcosm of what the Express are capable of on offense. Multiple Wells batters reached in a variety of ways, showcasing the scrappiness of a young Express team that can prove very adaptable at times.

In that 4th inning alone, Wells saw batters reach in myriad different scenarios. Josie Krieman began the attack with a double to deep left field, which Bailey Friot followed up with a savvy single of her own that crept through the Redhawk infield. Friot then stole 2nd base as Anna Bernatavitz put the pressure on La Roche with a powerfully placed ball that resulted in a Redhawk error, scoring Krieman. After displaying their offensive strength, the Express then fell back on their superior discipline, as back-to-back walks from Taylor Robinson and Isabella Boissonnault scored another Wells runner and loaded the bases.

The Express also induced chaos in the 5th inning, forcing numerous La Roche errors and putting up 2 more runs to get to 5.

Those two big innings were all the damage that the Express would inflict on La Roche in the 2nd matchup, but it also proved how the Wells offense can find many different ways to reach base on days where their bats are inconsistent.

Christa Koagel had a good 2nd game, going 2-for-4. The aforementioned Krieman and Friot also had a solid game 2 outing, each going 1-for-2 but managing to reach in creative ways which allowed them each to score 2 runs.

The Express will head back to Aurora to regroup and focus their attention on a tough Penn State Behrend team who arrives on Tuesday for an AMCC showdown.
