Softball Hosts Penn State Abington For Conference Play

Wells College softball hosted Penn State Abington this afternoon for a conference play doubleheader.

Sara Mattle pitched a complete game one for the Express. In the second inning, Wells scored their first run of the game when Shay Gonzales doubled to left field and advanced to third on a passed ball. Shay would then score on a ground out by Sara Mattle. After a walk, Sara Mattle stole second and advanced to third on a Megan Litzenberger infield single. When Litzenberger tried to steal second base, Mattle swiped home scoring the second run of the game for the Express. Unfortunately, the Lions on Penn State Abington took game one by a score of 12-2.

In game two Megan Litzenberger got the start for the Express and was relieved by Sara Mattle. In the fourth inning, Serina Sheradin started the inning off with a single to center field. Shay Gonzales then doubled to left center sending Sheradin to third. Lauren Kimball smacked a single to right field that scored both Sheradin and Gonzales to get the Express on the board with two runs. In the fifth, Megan Litzenberger and Natalie Day reached base on a couple of errors. They then pulled off a double steal with Day stealing second and Litzenberger stealing home. With three runs in the game, the Express could not keep up with Penn State Abington's offense and fell in game two, 13-3.

Tomorrow Wells Softball will host Penn State Berks for a Double Header starting at 1 PM
