Late Push Not Enough as Express Drop 2 vs Pioneers

ALFRED, NY - The Express softball team suffered from another slow start on Tuesday night, taking until game 2 to find their footing but still suffering back-to-back losses against a tough Pioneer squad by scores of 15-0 and 19-2. The Express' early errors killed their energy in game 1, causing their offense to lay dormant and send the Wells women to a 5-inning setback to start the series.

In game 2, the Express found a little spark.

Sophomore slugger Bailey Friot had an excellent second game in the leadoff slot for the Express, exploiting the gaps in the Pioneer defense and securing 2 hits to pair with 2 RBI. Friot hit a huge 2 RBI single in the 3rd inning to bring the Express within 3 runs of the Pioneers. Despite the timely swing from Friot, the Express slowly lost their momentum and eventually let the gap grow, allowing the Pioneers to pull away.

The Express showcased their aptitude for adjustment later in the series, as they put on a clean defensive performance in game 2, recording 0 errors in the latter matchup. They also recorded 6 hits, showing signs of breaking through but never seizing their opportunies.

The Express will head out on Friday to take on Pitt. - Greensburg as their debut AMCC season continues.
