Opening Innings Doom Softball Team in Conference Road DH

The Wells College softball team dropped a pair of conference games at Penn State Berks on Saturday, April 10. In each contest, the opposition had its best scoring inning of the game in its opening at-bat that made comeback aspirations challenging for the Express.

In the first game, Berks plated four in the first inning on their way to a 10-0 win. The Express got three hits in the opener with a pair coming from Erin Normile (Binghamton, N.Y.). Olivia Maish (Palmdale, Calif.) had the team's other hit, while Jenna Devora (San Antonio, Tx.) pitched the entire game and gave up a dozen hits with a pair of strikeouts.

In the second game, the Express jumped out to a 2-0 lead. A Morgan Adams (Waverly, N.Y.) blast scored Normile and Wells tried to extend its lead to 3-0 on the play but were tagged out at home plate. Berks answered with 10 runs in the bottom of the first.

Wells finished with four hits in the matinee matchup. In addition to Adams, hits came from Maish, Hannah Harmon (Spencer, N.Y.) and Jennifer McCumber (Albany, N.Y), with the latter taking the pitching loss after allowing a pair of hits and eight runs. Maish came in relief and surrendered nine hits and runs. The Express left seven stranded runners in the contest.

The softball team next travels to Penn College for another conference doubleheader on Wednesday, April 14.
