Express Athletes of the Week for March 24-31

Express Athletes of the Week for March 24-31

Lauren Spiegel and Billy McCrae have been selected as the Express Athletes of the Week for the week of March 24-31. Both had outstanding weeks that led them to receive great recognition for their amazing play and senior leadership.

Lauren Spiegel was selected for her display of superior defense which garnered her lots of attention within the AMCC Lacrosse landscape and also led her to receive the AMCC Defensive Player of the Week Award.

Spiegel's DPOTW win marks the 3rd-straight week that an Express player has taken home the honor. She had an outstanding week for an Express defense that currently ranks #1 in ALL of Division III Women's Lacrosse for goals allowed per game. In a midweek win vs SUNY Poly, she used her net, stick, and even her cleats to shutdown a plethora of Wildcat attacks en-route to a 19-save performance. Spiegel also recorded her 300th save during the win on Wednesday. The senior from Ballston Lake, NY followed it up on Saturday by having another strong showing in front of the cage, logging four saves and only allowing two goals in a huge debut win for the Express in the AMCC over Mount Aloysius. Spiegel has a spotless record of 8-0 on the year, and is part of an Express goalkeeping unit that ranks first in ALL of DIII for save percentage at .630.

Billy McCrae got the nod after controlling the net for all 3 of the Express' matches this past week, dominating defensively and offensively while also having a stellar Senior Day outing in which he was honored for all his time and dedication to the program.

McCrae was an offensive standout for the Express this week, posing a major threat to all opposing offenses and defenses as his presence around the net was felt all week by of the opponents that Wells matched up against. McCrae, who was honored this past Saturday as one of Wells' distinguished seniors, decimated opposing courts as he put down 29 kills, good for 3.22 kills per set. McCrae was also extremely efficient, recording a .367 hitting percentage, and sparking many Express runs throughout the week, including 3 straight kills in the final set against Wilkes to close the Express deficit to 1 and force a Colonels timeout. McCrae was composed and steadfast, controlling the area around the net and attacking with great power and accuracy. McCrae is also a career 1,000 point scorer as a college baseball player (503 at Wells).

Both seniors have shown great dedication to Express Athletics and Wells College as a whole during their time in Aurora. Follow along as they each complete their Express journey during the final couple of weeks before Summer!
