WELLS SOFTBALL DROPS TWO AGAINST HOOD

Frederick, MD – The Wells College softball team (0-2) dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader to the Hood College Blazers (3-9) by a score of 8-2 in the first game and 19-0 (5 inn.) in the second Monday afternoon.

Jacquie LeMar would get thing going for the Blazers as she would draw a walk, steal second, and score on a single by Jen Willison to give Hood the early 1-0 lead. With two outs in the top of third inning, Rebekah Coons (Voorheesville, NY) would single up the middle and score on an Aly Mann (Walden, NY)  double to left center to tie the game 1-1. The Blazers would respond immediately in the bottom frame as Sarah Wastler hit a two-run home run to give Hood the 3-1 lead.

Down 8-1 in the seventh, Amelia Welch (Warrensburg, NY) would lead off with a single and move to second on a Jess Fossett (Camden, ME) walk. Erin Brosnan  (Duanesburg, NY) would hit a shot off the left fielders glove that would go to the fence plating Welch and sending Brosnan to second.  Coons would reach on an error, loading the bases with two outs. Britteney Laurenceau, who entered in the previous inning, (Brooklyn, NY) would foul off the first two pitches she would see, but would go down looking on a nasty 2-2 pitch ending the game.

Fossett finished 1-2 with a double and walk. Welch and Laura Rowley (Kendall, NY) each finished 1-3. Beth Cereo (Port Biron, NY) took the loss going six innings, allowing ten runs on eight earned runs while striking out two.

In game two the Blazers bats came alive scoring 19 runs on 17 hits.  Emalie Stroup earned her first win of the season for Hood, allowing two hits, walking seven, and striking out three. Erin Brosnan and Beth Cereo each had a hit for Wells while Rebekah Coons reached base in all three at-bats on three walks.

Aly Mann suffered the loss for the Express going four innings, allowing all 19 runs, 15 earned, while striking out three and walking three.
