Morrisville, NY- The Wells College softball team was swept by Morrisville State 9-1 (6 inn.) and 5-0 Wednesday afternoon in Morrisville. Aly Mann (Walden, NY), Jess Fossett (Camden, ME), and Beth Cereo (Port Biron, NY) all collected hits for the Express.
In game one, Morrisville State led 2-1 after the first inning, and added three runs in the third, one in the fourth and three more in the sixth inning to claim the 9-1 non-conference victory.
Cereo suffered the loss on the mound going 51/3 innings, allowing six earned runs, while walking one and striking out one.
In game two, Morrisville jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three innings and added three additional runs in the bottom of the fourth to claim the win. Halee Riley (Homer, NY) recorded the victory on the mound, allowing one hit by Molly Babcock (Lake Placid, NY) in 23 at bats while tallying five strikeouts.
The Express will open up North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play with a double header at home against D'Youville College on Saturday, March 28, at 1:00 pm.
