FIGHTING TIGERS TAKE TWO FROM EXPRESS

Cobleskill, NY – The Wells College softball team dropped both games of their NEAC double-header to the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers by a score of 3-1 and 15-9 on Monday afternoon in Cobleskill. With the loss the Express fall to 2-14 (0-8 NEAC) while the Fight Tigers improve to 4-9 (2-4 NEAC).

The Express would get on the board in the fifth inning as Rebekah Coons (Voorheesville, NY) would single home Emily Northrup (Rochester, NY) and advance Britteney Laurenceau (Brooklym, NY) to second, trimming the lead down to 2-1. After a pass ball put runners on second and third with one out, the Express would look to break the game open, but a strike out and fly out to the left fielder would end the inning.

The Fighting Tigers would add an insurance run in the bottom frame giving Cobleskill the 3-1 lead. Cobleskill would go on to retire the final six batters they faced en-route to the victory. Coons was the offensive star for the Express finishing 3-3 with an rbi including a triple off the fence and three put outs.

The Fighting Tigers would not lay down as they would roar back to take the lead scoring two runs in the bottom of the second, one in the third, and three in the fourth taking the 7-6 lead. Wells would answer in the top of fifth inning as they would tie the game on a two out, rbi-single by Laurenceau.

The Fighting Tigers would again respond taking a two-run lead in the bottom half of the inning as the first two batters would reach on a hit-by-pitch and an error at second base. Cobleskill would follow with a two-run double and a 9-7 lead.

In the top of the sixth, Wells would plate two more runs, on a pass ball and an rbi-single by Amelia Welch (Warrensburg, NY) to tie the game at 9-9.

The Fighting Tigers would break the game wide open with a six run, sixth inning, as the first six batters of the inning would score before the Express were able to record an out. Wells had one more shot at Cobleskill in the top of the seventh, but the Express would go in order sealing the victory for Cobleskill.
