LADY LIONS SHUTDOWN EXPRESS

Aurora, NY – The Wells College softball team dropped both games of their North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) double-header 4-0 and 11-0 to the Penn St. Harrisburg Lady Lions on Sunday afternoon in Aurora. With the losses the Express fall to 2-20 (0-12 NEAC) while the Lady Lions improve to 8-21 (5-5 NEAC).

Rebekah Coons finished the day 4-6 for the Express while Kinsey Cunningham led the Lady Lions with a 5-8 day from the plate including three RBI and three runs scored.

Erika Sorenson took the win on the mound in both games hurling a combined 13 innings, allowing 11 hits on no earned runs while striking out eight Express batters.

In game one the Lady Lions would get on the board in the second inning as Cunningham would belt a lead-off homerun to give the Lady Lions a 1-0 lead. Two batters later Krystal Miranda would come to the plate and hit a two-run homerun extending the lead to 3-0. The Express would settle down retiring the next three batters. Although Wells would threaten most of the game, they would leave nine runners on base as the Lady Lions would go on to add an insurance run in the sixth to seal the 4-0 victory.

Game two was a much different story as Penn St. would jump out to 4-0 lead after the first inning and would hold a 6-0 lead at the end of three. The Lady Lions would blow the game open in the fifth scoring five runs as the game would be shortened by the run rule.

The Express will return action on Tuesday, April 20th as Rochester Institute of Technology comes to town for a non-conference double-header slated to begin at 1:00 pm.
