WELLS SOFTBALL SWEEPS HILBERT

Aurora, NY- The Wells College softball team steadily defeated Hilbert College 8-7 and 18-9 (5 inn.) in non-conference action on Thursday at Wells. With the victories, the Express improve to 2-12 (0-6 NEAC) while Hilbert drops to 4-11 (0-2 AMCC) on the season.

The Wells bats were hot on Thursday afternoon as they would plate 26 runs on 23 hits in the two games.

The Express would need a late inning rally in game one as they would find themselves down 6-4 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. With two outs, a single by Laura Rowley, a hit-by-pitch by Abby Williams, and a walk by Brittany Laurenceau would load the bases. Two straight pass balls would plate Rowley and advance runners to second and third. Rebekah Coons would then tie the game at 6-6 on a single while two more runs would score on an error at third base, giving the Express an 8-6 lead.

Clinging to a two run lead, the Express would give up one run in the top of the sixth inning, but would hold in the top of the seventh, as the Hilbert would go down in order, giving Wells the 8-7 win.

In game two, Wells would score two runs in the first, three in the second, three in third, and ten runs in the fourth as they would cruise to the 18-9 victory in the run-ruled shortened game. Rebekah Coons finished 3-3 with three runs scored and three rbi's, Aly Mann finished 2-3 with six rbi's, Laura Rowley finished 2-3 with two rbi's, and winning pitcher Beth Cereo finished 1-3 with two rbi's. Amelia Welch, Juli Vibbard, Jess Fossett, and Molly Babcock also collected hits for Wells.

The Express return to action on Monday, April 13th as they travel to Cobleskill, NY to take on the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers at 3:00 pm in NEAC conference play.
