WELLS QUICK START LEADS TO VICTORY OVER BARD

(Ithaca, N.Y.)─ The Wells College women's lacrosse team jumped out to an 8-2 lead before halftime and held on to defeat Bard College 13-9 on Sunday afternoon at Schoelkopf Field in Ithaca, N.Y.  Courtney Grosser (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) scored four goals and Madeline Bass (Lemon Grove, Calif./Helix) added three goals and one assist to lead the Express.  The victory improves Wells College to 2-2 on the season, while the Raptors fall to 1-1 on the year.
 
Express goalie Liz Barclay (Laporte, Pa./Lincoln Academy) earned the win in net with ten saves.  Sarah Allen (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North) had one goal and three assist, Stephanie Miller (Barton, N.Y./Tioga Central) and Ariel Taft (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) each added one goal and one assist, while Anna Breard (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) added two goals and Kendra Francis (Hooper, Utah/Fremont) chipped in with one goal off the bench. 
 
Stephanie LaMont (Skippack, Pa./Germantown Academy) paced the Raptors with three goals and one assist.  Brianna Bean (Kaneohe, H.I./Castle) added two goals and one assist and Bridge Reddington (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) finished with two goals.  Raptor goalie Hannah Becker (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) took the lost in net with seven saves.
 
Wells held the advantage in shots 27-26 and both teams finished with 20 ground balls.
 
Bard College struck first with a goal by Stephanie LaMont but Wells answered quickly with four straight goals and would lead 8-2 at the half.
 
Wells continued to cruise in the second half taking a commanding 13-4 lead with 15 minutes to play. The deficit proved to be too much in the end despite a 5 goal rally by Bard to close the game.  
 
The Express return to action Tuesday, March 16 at 4 p.m. against Hartwick College in Aurora, N.Y.
