Men's Lacrosse Stifled By SUNY Geneseo, 20-5

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior Hayden Shuster (Careywood, Id.) of the Wells College men's lacrosse team scored his first collegiate goal during his team's loss to SUNY Geneseo on Friday at the Rochester Institute of Technology. With the 20-5 loss, Wells dips to 0-1 on the year while SUNY Geneseo remains undefeated in four contests.

Junior Connor Jansen (Horseheads, N.Y.) scored two goals for Wells while sophomore Alex Milliken (Hilton, N.Y.), freshman Aaron Heisey (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and Shuster each struck once for the Express. A defenseman, Shuster's goal was his first in 38 career games with the team. Freshman Ian Domon (Buffalo, N.Y.) picked up an assist on Jansen's second goal of the contest to round out the point scoring for Wells.

The Knights opened up a 9-0 lead before halftime as Steven Cregan scored three separate times to help his team to a convincing lead through the first 30 minutes of play. Wells, however, countered with goals from Milliken and Heisey to open the second half, cutting the lead to 9-2.

SUNY Geneseo, however, posted four of the game's next five goals to create an insurmountable lead and went on a 7-0 run in the fourth quarter, increasing their lead to 20-4 with 4:42 left in regulation time. A Jansen goal, set up by Domon, concluded the scoring for both teams with 1:51 left.

The Knights held a commanding 27-for-29 advantage in face-offs as Parker Weeks, the brother of former Wells two-sport athlete Kirsten Weeks '06, racked up an impressive 26 victories at the "X". SUNY Geneseo also combined for 65 shots against Wells, the most by any opponent since Medaille fired 73 against the Express on Mar. 30, 2011.

Cregan, Brent Lawless and Ryan Gulbransen each scored three goals to lead their team with the latter also posting three assists for a team-best six points (3-3=6). SUNY Geneseo was also a perfect 9-for-9 in clear attempts while Wells converted just over half of their transitions.

Senior Tyler Bischoff (Allendale, N.J.) posted an impressive 19 saves for the Express, allowing 19 goals before yielding to sophomore Elijah Tracey (Utica, N.Y.) for the game's final six-plus minutes. Alex Howell earned the victory for the Knights, stopping both shots he faced in the game's first 30 minutes.

Wells travels to Houghton College on Friday, Mar. 27 as they will play the host Highlanders at 7 p.m. under the lights.
