Sage Pulls Away Late For Win Over Men's Lacrosse

The Wells College men's lacrosse team played a back-and-forth game before being overtaken by The Sage Colleges in the fourth quarter. Sage closed the game on a seven-goal run and won 18-12 over the Express on Tuesday, March 19 at the Wells Turf Field.

The largest lead for either team was a three-goal advantage early in the third for Sage, but Wells answered with a run of four straight goals and took a 10-9 lead with 3:40 left in the third quarter. Dalibor Hanes scored the go-ahead goal for Wells after he intercepted a clearing pass and scored into a vacated net. The game was tied 11-11 after three quarters. The score was tied on seven different occasions over the first three quarters.

Wells went ahead early in the fourth quarter on a rebound goal from Jared Shearer, but a man-up goal for Sage tied the score 12-12 less than 30 seconds later. Sage scored the final six goals of the game.

Padraic Iannello and Quinten Battle each had six-point games with three goals and three assists. Dalibor Hanes had three goals. Cash Lawson, Shearer, and Nathan Ramsey had the other Wells goals.

Trevor Stein had 10 saves for Wells. Charlie Iwuoha had three caused turnovers. Lawson led Wells with six ground balls. Justin Dude and Joe Stoj had two caused turnovers each. Sage had a 27-7 advantage at the faceoff X.

Sage is in its first year of varsity men's lacrosse and has a 4-2 record. Wells is 1-4 on the year and is in action Saturday, March 23 at Wilkes University.
