Men's Lacrosse Falls to Delhi in Home Opener

The Wells College men's lacrosse team played its 2019 home opener on a sunny, cool afternoon at the Wells Turf Field and were defeated 15-5 by visiting SUNY Delhi. The Broncos built an 8-2 lead at halftime and went on to the victory.

SUNY Delhi opened the scoring in the first quarter, but Wells answered with the tying goal from Padraic Iannello, assisted by Nathan Ramsey. The visiting Broncos scored the next seven goals, but the Express scored in the final second of the first half. A long clearing pass from goalkeeper Trevor Stein was collected by Dalibor Hanes, who turned, shot, and scored with one second remaining.

Delhi scored three in a row to start the third quarter and Wells answered with goals from Nathan Ramsey and Quinten Battle. Jared Shearer scored the final Wells goal, assisted by Iannello.

The Broncos had a 31-18 advantage in ground balls and a 47-23 advantage in shots.

Wells goalkeeper Trevor Stein had 16 saves. Iannello and Nathan Ramsey led Wells in scoring as each had one goal and two assists. Joe Stoj had three caused turnovers two ground balls.

Both teams are 1-2 on the year. Wells is back in action Wednesday, March 13 at 4 p.m. against Elmira College.
