Records Aplenty In Senior Day Victory Over Wheelock

AURORA, N.Y. – Numerous individual and program records were set on Sunday as the Wells College men's lacrosse team secured a 24-3 victory over visiting Wheelock College at the North Athletic Field. Wells earned its team-record fourth overall win of the year while the Wildcats drop to 0-9 overall on the season.

The Express scored a team-record 24 goals against Wheelock, breaking the previous mark of 23 set against Houghton on Mar. 27, 2015 and Green Mountain on Mar. 8, 2014. Offensively, Wells recorded 24 goals and 20 assists for 44 total points of offense, shattering the previous mark of 36 against both aforementioned teams. The 20 assists is also a team record and the team's 64 total shots taken is a program record.

Wells also reeled in 85 ground balls, breaking the previous team record of 69 set against Penn St.-Abington on Mar. 31, 2012. The team's 24 faceoff victories is also a team record, eclipsing the previous mark of 23 against Cobleskill St. on Apr. 27, 2013.

Individually, sophomore Alex Milliken (Hilton, N.Y.) became the fourth player in team history to reach the 100 career point plateau and concludes his second year in a Wells uniform with 104 points after scoring 71 goals and 33 assists. Junior Connor Jansen (Horseheads, N.Y.) also passed Kylan Hallett '11 to capture sole possession of second place on the career point scoring list (77-41=118) and trails only Daniel Munsell '13 and his team-record 131 career points on offense (106-25=131).

Jansen scored seven assists against Wheelock, the most by any individual player in team history. On the afternoon, he came up one point short of tying a career-best mark despite an impressive three goals and seven assists.

Five different players recorded three goals for the Express, including freshman Ian Domon (Buffalo, N.Y.), Milliken, sophomore Nicholas Lewis-Antwi (Bronx, N.Y.), Jansen and freshman Tanner Mingen (Houston, Texas.). Freshman Aaron Heisey (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) scored two goals and four assists for six points (2-4=6) while freshman Noah Strackbein (Jessup, Pa.) and sophomore Hayden Haas (Syracuse, N.Y.) each chipped in with two goals of their own. Single goals were scored by sophomore Cody Roberson (Winston-Salem, N.C.), senior Tyler Fischetti (Weedsport, N.Y.) and classmate Tyler Bischoff (Allendale, N.J.), who picked up his first collegiate goal.

Other noteworthy statistical performances came from sophomore Derrick Owens (Utica, N.Y.), who picked up 11 ground balls and junior Michael Flaherty (Rochester, N.Y.) who secured seven loose balls after winning all four faceoff attempts on the afternoon. Senior Hayden Shuster (Careywood, Id.) led his team with four caused turnovers while defenseman Brendan O'Connor (York, Pa.) joined Flaherty with three caused turnovers on the day.

Bischoff earned the start between the pipes for Wells, making all six saves before yielding to sophomore Elijah Tracey (Utica, N.Y.) who turned aside three-of-six shots that he faced. Freshman Zachary Simone (Johnstown, N.Y.) made his collegiate debut in goal for Wells, halting all four shots without allowing a goal.

Donovan Riley led Wheelock with three goals and 10 ground balls. Oscar Belmont forced five turnovers for the Wildcats while Collin Davis made 13 saves on 27 total shots on the afternoon. As a team, Wheelock tallied 43 ground balls and forced the Express into 16 miscues.
