Men’s Lacrosse Defeated By Mt. St. Vincent In Season Opener

YONKERS, N.Y. – The Wells College men's lacrosse team posted a 21-2 season opening loss to the Dolphins of Mount Saint Vincent College Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Express fall to 0-1 on the young season while the Dolphins improve to 1-0 overall following the non-conference contest.

Despite a 12-0 deficit at the half, the Express opened the second half scoring as freshman midfielder Michael Flaherty (Rochester, N.Y.) converted the first Wells goal of the season, a man-up tally, only 16 seconds into the second half. Flaherty would later add his second man-up goal of the game near the midpoint of the fourth quarter.

Senior attack Daniel Munsell (Doylestown, Pa.) led the team with eight ground balls to his credit and also tied for the team lead with two caused turnovers. Defenseman Hayden Shuster (Careywood, Idaho) also joined Munsell and Flaherty with two caused turnovers each. Shuster also chipped in with five ground balls to his credit.

For the Dolphins, 13 different players recorded at least one point en route to the victory. Bryan Stein led the way with six points via four goals and two assists. Miller Celestin ranked second on the squad, posting two goals and two assists for four points. John Petito led the way with four caused turnovers for Mount Saint Vincent.

In goal for the Express, Tyler Bischoff (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) was saddled with the loss despite making 18 saves for Wells. Kyle Kalibat drew the win for the Dolphins, making three saves prior to yielding to Dom Scipioni and Ben Gashi in the second half.

Last season, the Express posted a 7-6 victory over the Dolphins on Mar. 17, 2012.
