Men's Lacrosse Falters at Keuka, 17-2

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Wells College men's lacrosse team recorded a 17-2 loss on Tuesday at Keuka College. The Express fall to 1-10 overall on the year and to 0-5 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Keuka has won nine of its 10 games on the year and remains undefeated in five league contests. 

Sophomore Aaron Heisey (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and senior Connor Jansen (Horseheads, N.Y.) scored for the Express – Heisey added his team's lone assist on Jansen's goal in the first quarter. Freshman Benjamin Posecznick (Marcellus, N.Y.) tied for the team lead with six ground balls while forcing a team-best two turnovers. 

Keuka led from start to finish in the contest, opening up a 3-0 lead through the game's first 9:21 before Jansen scored off a pass from Heisey to cut into the deficit. A six-goal run for Keuka was interrupted by an unassisted Heisey goal with 8:30 to go in the opening half, but the Wolfpack ended the contest on an 8-0 scoring streak. 

Wells was outshot by a 52-to-24 margin while allowing 52 ground balls to its opponent. Keuka was successful on 25-of-28 clearance attempts while winning 15 of the game's 23 face-offs. Both teams were 0-for-3 with the extra man. 

Express goalkeeper Elijah Tracey (Utica, N.Y.) set a new career-high mark with 22 saves. The tandem of Jacob Wood and Kyle Andrake combined to make seven saves on nine shots on goal. 

Matt Beebe led Keuka with five goals and six assists. Jake Altman collected six ground balls to lead the team while Dustin Springer forced the Express into a team-best five turnovers. 

Wells will host the Mavericks of Medaille College this Saturday, Apr. 23 in a 1 p.m. conference game on HEADstrong Foundation Cancer Awareness day. Both teams will don special blue and lime green socks to raise funds and awareness for the foundation, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their families.
