Hilbert Pulls Away For Men's Lacrosse Win Over Wells

The Wells College men's lacrosse team fell by a score of 13-8 to visiting Hilbert College on Wednesday, April 11 at the Wells Turf Field.

The teams entered the game tied in the North Eastern Athletic Conference standings and it was reflected in a close game over the first three quarters. Hilbert pulled away in the fourth quarter with four unanswered goals. Hilbert improved to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in the NEAC. Wells is 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the NEAC.

The Hawks took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter but Wells tied it on a pair of goals from Aaron Heisey.

The Express took its first lead of the game at 3-2 early in the second quarter on a goal from Tanner Mingen. Hilbert scored four goals in a row to build a 6-3 advantage. Mingen and Carson Combs scored before halftime. Wells trailed 7-5 at halftime.

Hilbert again claimed a three-goal lead early in the third quarter, but Wells answered with a 3-1 run and trailed 9-8 after the third. The eighth goal for Wells came on an intercepted pass by Tanner Mingen and a goal with one second left in the quarter. The Hawks scored all four goals of the fourth quarter.

Wells goalkeeper Zack Simone made 11 saves.

Heisey and Mingen each scored three goals. Combs and Brian Buttner added the other two goals. Mingen had 10 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. Heisey had five ground balls and won four faceoffs.

Wells will play at home Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m. against SUNY Cobleskill at 1 p.m.
