EXPRESS FALL TO SUNYIT IN CONFERENCE FINAL

The Wells College men's basketball team did not have any answers for SUNYIT on Sunday afternoon as the Wildcats rolled to 78-49 victory in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship held at SUNY IT. With the win SUNYIT clinches it's first league title and NCAA tournament birth in school history.

Darrell Bullock (Chicago, IL) scored 17 points and had five rebounds, Jarrell Williams (Bronx, NY) scored 12 points, and Juan Paulino (Bronx, NY) had 10 rebounds. With the loss Wells finished their remarkable inaugural season 14-14, which is the highest win total by any Wells team in the last 20 years.

The Express defeated SUNY Cobleskill 59-54 on Friday and University of Dallas 61-59 on Saturday to reach the finals.

Both teams got off to a slow start offensively, as the score was just 10-8 in favor of SUNYIT with seven minutes left to go before halftime.  That's when SUNYIT went to it's bench, where sophomore Kevin Cappiello (Youngsville, NY/Sullivan West) and senior Lol-Kirk Miller (Bronx, NY/Landmark) both got the scoring started with nine points a piece and leading the Wildcats on a 21-1 run to close out the half.

SUNYIT made sure they kept their lead in the second half, shooting an incredible 67 percent from the field (16-of-24) to build their lead to as much as 37 points and cruise to the championship victory.

Junior Diloo Brown (Harlem, NY/TCI) of SUNY IT was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player award, as he averaged 19.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, two steals and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 65 percent from the field (22-of-34) in the three victories.
