ROSER LEADS EXPRESS PAST NITTANY LIONS

AURORA, N.Y.Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) led four different players in double-figures with 22 points and 18 rebounds as the Wells College women's basketball team cruised to a 67-42 rout of the Penn. St. Abington Nittany Lions on Sunday afternoon in Aurora. With the victory the Express improve to 4-11 (2-5 NEAC), while the Nittany Lions fall to 0-14 (0-8 NEAC).

 

Jordan Peterson (Hamilton, N.Y.) finished with 14 points and seven rebounds, Kristen Ryan (Syracuse, N.Y.) added 10 points and eight rebounds, and Jessilyn Artaho-Aki (Kappaa, Hawaii) chipped in with 10 points for Wells.

 

The Express opened with a 13-6 run and would stretch their lead to 15 points (30-15) with 7:37 to play in the first half. Wells continued to control the game, stretching their lead by as many as 17-points in the half before closing with a 36-20 lead.

 

The Nittany Lions climbed back to within seven points (47-40) with 10:43 to play but the Wells defense stepped up from there. Two free-throws from Roser and a lay-up from Artaho-Aki started a stretch of 16 straight points by the Express, while holding the Nittany Lions to just two points the rest of the way en route to the 25-point victory.

 

Jessica Schmidt (Elkins Park, Pa.) led the Nittany Lions with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Gabrielle Benedict (Jamison, Pa.) added six points and 12 rebounds.

 

Abington finished a dismal 15-62, including 1-15 from behind the arc. The Express finished 34 percent from the field and held the advantage on the boards 53-49.

 

Wells returns to action Jan. 25 when they take on NEAC opponent Morrisville State College at 7 p.m. in Morrisville, N.Y.
