WOMEN'S TENNIS FIGHTS OFF SCREAMING EAGLES

Morristown, N.J.–  The Wells College women's tennis team came away with a hard fought North Eastern Athletic Conference victory over the College of St. Elizabeth defeating the Screaming Eagles 7-2 on Saturday afternoon in Morristown, N.J. The Express took two of three matches in doubles action and then finished 5-2 in singles action to secure the victory. Wells improves to 3-1 (3-0 NEAC) in the spring, while the Screaming Eagles fall to 0-2 (0-1 NEAC).

In doubles action the duo of Paula Goodnough and Ana Riley won 8-5, while Lorinna and Mindy LaMier rallied back from a 7-6 deficit to take the match 9-8, winning on a final game tie breaker 10-6. 

Cat Abrego led the Express from the No. 1 singles position defeating her opponent 6-2, 7-6, with a final match tie breaker, 8-6. Aya Shiraishi had her hands full at No. 5 singles needing three sets to secure the win. Shiraishi took set one 6-4, lost set two 7-5, and battled back in set three with a 6-4 match clinching victory. 

The Express return to action Monday, April 5, against NEAC opponent Kueka College at 4:00 p.m. at Wells.
