WELLS WOMEN’S LAX FALLS SHORT AGAINST HARTWICK

Oneonta, N.Y.– The Wells College women's lacrosse team fell in their season opener to the Hartwick College Hawks 11-9 on Wednesday night at Wright Stadium in Oneonta, N.Y. Freshmen Sarah Allen (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North) led the Express with five goals, while senior Emily Lotkowictz (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) tallied three goals, three assists, and seven ground balls. Elizabeth Barclay (Laporte, Pa./Lincoln Academy) finished with a game high 10 saves in the loss.

The Hawks seemed in control in the second half holding a 7-3 lead, but two goals by Allen and another by Lotkowictz would trim the lead one with 17:50 remaining. Hartwick would respond with three straight goals of their own, over an eight minute span, as the Hawks would hold on for the two goal victory.

Hartwick controlled the majority of the game holding the advantage in shots (31-17) and ground balls (26-16).  Hannah Kennedy and Brittany LaVaute led the Hawks with two goals and one assist each, while Jen Kaye earned the win in net with four saves.

The Express return to action on Saturday, March 13 to take on the Ramapo College Roadrunners at 6:30 p.m. at Schoellkopf Field on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.
