'On This Day' Win Streak Improves to 3 after 1st-Place Opponent Suffers First Conference Loss to Express

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Feb. 15, four years ago in 2017.

MARCY, N.Y. - The Wells College men's volleyball team ran its winning streak to three matches with a five-set win over first-place SUNY Polytechnic Institute on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, at SUNY Poly. Set scores were 21-25, 25-16, 25-18, 23-25, 15-12.

SUNY Poly won four of the last five points to close out a close first set.

In the second set, Wells started with the first five points including four kills from Brannon Perdicho. The lead grew to as large as 11 points and the Express won the set 25-16. Wells had a .391 hitting percentage in the second set.

The Express kept things going in the third set with a 25-18 win. Wells picked up six points on SUNY Poly hitting errors and six more on service errors.

SUNY Poly won the fourth set by a 25-23 score. Wells led 8-4 in the early going, but the Wildcats came back to take an 11-8 lead. Wells used a 6-2 run later in the set to lead 20-19, but SUNY Poly edged out a two-point win to force a deciding fifth set.

In the fifth set, SUNY Poly scored the first two points, but Wells rattled off five straight points that included two kills from Caden O'Loughlin and one from Josh Undari. Later on, Wells used another five-point run to stretch the lead to 12-4. The match-winning point was a kill by Jonathan Haines and Wells won 15-12.

Wells hit .225 in the match. Perdicho led the Express with 22 kills and O'Loughlin had 13 kills. Haines had nine kills and a .353 hitting percentage. Scott Litvin had 26 assists and Undari had 22 assists. O'Loughlin led Wells with 17 digs. Undari had one solo block and four block assists. Ryan Turner had six block assists and Litvin had five.

The victory improved Wells' record to 2-2 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference, while SUNY Poly suffered its first NEAC loss of the year, and now owns a 4-1 conference record.
