MEN'S LACROSSE SEASON REVIEW
Aurora, N.Y.- 2010 was the third season of NCAA Varsity Lacrosse at Wells College and the Express had their most successful season in the program's history. The team won their first two games in program history beating conference rival PSU-Abington and non-conference opponent Mt. St. Mary.
The Express rewrote the record book this season breaking almost every single season record. Much of the success was due to the hard work and discipline the team showed throughout the year.
New comers Dan Hunt and Dan Munsell provided a lot of offense for the Express. Hunt had 31 goals and 12 assists and set the record for goals and points in a single game as well as goals and points in a season. Hunt, a Skaneateles, NY native came to Wells from Cayuga Community College in Auburn, NY where he had also set many school records. Hunt was named Second Team all NEAC attack. Munsell, a freshman from Central Bucks West High School in Doylestown, Pa. had 25 goals and seven assists. He was also named First Team All-NEAC midfield.
Junior Kylan Hallett (Basom, N.Y.) had 27 goals and 17 assists while being the do everything player by facing off, being a two-way middle, playing man down defense, as well as attack. Kylan was named Second Team all NEAC as a midfielder.
Sophomore Goalie Kyle Brimm (Geneva, N.Y.) and the defense helped keep Wells in many games. Brimm ended the year with 246 saves and .522 save percentage. The defense was anchored by freshman Steve Rodriguez (Whittier, Calif.), junior Dave Easton (Rochester, N.Y.) and senior Court Carnahan (Rochester, N.Y). Junior Matt Crandall (West Valley, N.Y.), playing out of position, manned the LSM position and played extremely well throughout the year. Rodriguez and Crandall each had a goal on the season.
The midfield was bolstered by sophomores Dave Kaus (Erie, Pa.) and Chris Burger (West Valley, N.Y). Kaus (10g, 6a) worked extremely hard all season to improve his stick skills. As a former goalie, Kaus unselfishly agreed to play short stick to help the team. Burger (5g, 5a), who has only played organized lacrosse for two years, proved to be a tireless worker who left everything on field and got better every day.
Freshman Dan Schilling (Centerport, N.Y.) played attack for the Express this year and showed marked improvement throughout the year. He will be expected to contribute even more next year. Tom Bowling (Byfield, Mass.) and Drew Teter (Campbell, N.Y.) also showed great effort and have improved immensely.
The team expects to continue to improve in 2011 and build upon the foundation that was laid this year.
