Wells Baseball Takes on NYU In Staten Island

Wells College baseball was back in action today playing a doubleheader against the NYU Violets.

The Express are coming off a doubleheader at the United States Merchant Marine Academy where they dropped both games. Senior Austin Jordan got the start for the Express in the first game and ended up pitching a complete game. Jordan gave up seven runs (five earned) on nine hits and struck out four with no walks. The story of the first game was the pitching for the NYU Violets that held the Express to just one hit coming off the bat of first-year Zach Young. The Violets won the first game, 7-0.

Mason Smith, a first-year pitcher for the Express, got the start against the Violets in game two. Smith allowed ten earned runs on five hits and six walks. Jack Field and Ethan Zimmerman came in relief for a combined 6.2 innings giving up only three combined hits and one run. The offense once again had a challenging time firing up for the Express. The only extra-base hit on the day was from Alan Compres in the eighth inning. Wells dropped both games to the Violets, this one by a score of 11-0.

Baseball will host the SUNY Poly Wildcats next weekend for a three-game set starting on Saturday.
