Baseball Splits With The Seahawks In A Doubleheader

Wells College baseball was back in action Saturday against the St Mary's Seahawks. 

Yesterday the Seahawks defeated the Express 12-3, the Express was looking to avoid the sweep this afternoon.

In the first game St Mary's jumped out to a large lead in the bottom of the second scoring 7 runs on 8 hits and putting the Express behind early. Aaron Izquierdo batted home two runs in the third inning to cut the lead to 5 runs, but the Seahawks did more than answer. They scored 10 runs in the 4th and 4 runs in the 5th which gave them 21 on the day. An Aaron Izquierdo SAC fly sent home another run for Wells in the 5th, Mark Maybee and and Kyle Ketchum batted in three combined runs in the 6th, and Nick Manee singled home 2 more runs in the 7th but the Express fell in the first game, 21-8. 

Jonathan Haines was on the mound for the second game and had himself a great start. He threw 6 complete innings allowing only 3 hits and 1 run. The Express grabbed their first lead of the day in the top of thrid when a Jacobi James double scored Bradley Mills and Zach Young. The Express added more runs in the 7th when Zack Odum, Zach Young, and Stephen Livingston all singled and sent in 3 runs. John Valinoti then walked with the bases loaded giving the Express a 6-1 lead. Stephen Livingston singled home another run in the 9th inning giving the Express a little more breathing room with a 7-4 lead so Mike Nascimento could close the game out giving Wells College their first conference win of the season. 

Baseball will hit the road next weekend to take on Penn State Abington.
