Baseball Takes On Abington In First of Three Games

Wells College baseball is back on the road starting Friday afternoon, this time taking on conference foe Penn State Abington.

The Express allowed one run on two hits in the bottom of the first. Wells got themselves on the board in the top of the third when Max and Zack Odum both got on base, then Aaron Izquierdo sent Max Odum home with a double to left center. Zach Young would bat in Zack Odum with a SAC fly, followed by a single from Jonathan Haines scoring Izquierdo. The three runs the Express put up were quickly answered in the bottom of the third when Abington added 4 more runs to go up 5-3. The Nittany Lions continued to score in the 4th and 5th inning grabbing a 12-4 lead heading into the 6th. In the top of the 6th, Haines got things started with a double to left field. A James Camacho pinch hit single pushed the runners forward, followed by a Max Odum Walk (sending a runner home) and a Zack Odum single cleared the loaded bases! Aaron Izquierdo hit in one more run to make it 5 runs in the 6th for the Express. On the mound, Zander Johnson and Ryan Wiser combined for the final 3 innings allowing 3 hits and only 1 run. Johnson also struck out 4 in 2.1 innings of work. Zach Young batted in one more run in the top of the 8th but the Express fell in game one, 13-10.

Baseball will have Saturday off and be back on the field in Abington for a double header this Sunday.
