'On This Day' Express Close Out Regular Season with 7th-Consecutive Win

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Feb. 18, nine years ago in 2012.

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Wells College men's basketball team led by 15 points at the half and never looked back en route to a 91-78 victory over Keuka College in the final regular season home game for both squads Saturday afternoon, Feb. 18, 2012, in Keuka Park, N.Y.

The Express (14-11, 11-4 NEAC) finish the regular season having won 10 of their last 11 including seven straight to clinch the second seed in the NEAC North Division and will now await seeding for the NEAC Championship Tournament set to begin next Saturday on the campus of Morrisville State College.

Dave Foltz led four Express players in double figures with 26 points and five assists. EJ Taylor finished a perfect 4-4 from behind the arc to finish with 17 points. Andre Sawyers added 16 points and seven rebounds and Terry Harrison scored 16 points on 6-8 shooting from the floor to round out the top scorers for Wells.

Leading 10-9 early in the first half, back-to-back 3-pointers by Foltz and two free throws by Harrison gave Wells an 18-9 lead. The Storm came roaring back with an 11-2 run over a span of five minutes to tie the game at 20-20 with 8:51 to play in the half.

Two straight treys by Taylor sparked Wells to a 20-5 run to close the half while the Express defense forced four turnovers and held the Storm to 1-10 from the field during the stretch to take a commanding 40-25 lead at the break.

The Storm would outscore the Express 53-51 in the second half and would cut the lead to 10 with 6:20 to play, but that would be as close they would come as Wells cruised to their 14-th win of the season.

The Express shot an impressive 57.1 percent from the floor including 10-18 from long range while hitting 25 of 37 free throw shots.
