Senior Spotlight: Padraic Iannello

Senior Spotlight: Padraic Iannello

With the cancellation of the remainder of the spring season and the winter championships, at least one Wells College senior spring student-athlete will be highlighted each weekend. Today's featured student-athlete is senior Padraic Iannello from the men's lacrosse team.

Padraic is from Dryden, N.Y., and primarily played attack for the Express.

Wells head men's lacrosse coach Andrew Daly had the following to say about Padraic, "He is super competitive, but never lets that get in the way of having fun. Padraic is willing to take on any pressure you thrown at him and does so with energy and excitement. He even got a run as a long-stick middie in his last collegiate game, and cleared the ball out for us after the other team turned it over."

Over his career at Wells, Padraic appeared in eight games and started seven and tallied 22 points from 10 goals and a dozen assists, averaging nearly three points-per-game. Padraic scooped 21 groundballs and caused seven turnovers. His shooting accuracy was at 70 percent for shots on net with 28.

During the shortened 2020 season, Padraic appeared in both games as a starter with three points from one goal and a pair of assists with four groundballs, one caused turnover and two shots on goal.

Why did you choose Wells College?

I chose Wells because I wanted to go somewhere that was kind of close to where I grew up, as well as somewhere that I wanted to have fun playing.

What is your favorite memory at Wells College as a student-athlete?

My favorite memory is probably from my junior year when I got Space Jam added to the pregame warmup list.

What are your plans after Wells College?

I plan on working for a while and then moving out and getting a place of my own before I start thinking about possibly going to graduate school.

What advice would you give to the next person wearing your number?

The advice that I would give to them is only pass to the crease from behind, and also that underhand bounce shots are always okay.

If you had a favorite class during your time at Wells College, what was it and why was it your favorite?

If I had to pick one class that I enjoyed the most it would be the sport management class that I took with Professor Lindberg. It was my favorite because I was taking the class with a lot of other athletes and we would talk about current events in the athletic world and the impact that many professional athletes, as well as the sports they played in, had on people throughout the world.

What will you miss the most about being a student-athlete at Wells College?

I'm definitely going to miss being able to finish out the season with the rest of the guys and the chance to play with them and help them develop as players and as individuals.
