The Wells College softball team opened their season today when they hosted the Hoghton College Highlanders for a doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
This was the first game of the season for the Express and Houghton had already played 9 games.
In the first game, the Highlanders came out hot and posted a 7 spot in the first inning. The Express offense couldn't get anything going and the highlanders kept finding the gap. the final was 17-0 in five innings in game 1.
In-game two, the Express were plagued by errors and walks as the Highlanders built a 21-0 lead after just two innings. In the 5th inning, however, Jennifer McCumber singled to right, advanced to second on a Kayla Groth ground out, and scored on a double by Serina Sheradin. Sheridan then stole third and scored on an error by the Highlanders' second base. The Expres found their first runs of the season.
The Express would go on to lose the second game by a score of 35-2.
