Wells Softball 2022 Season Recap

Wells Softball 2022 Season Recap

On Tuesday, May 3rd the Wells College softball team wrapped up their season for 2022.

They celebrated their three seniors the week before. The Three seniors were Tori Miller, Jen McCumber, and Angie Otterbein.

Unfortunately for the Express, it was a down year on the turf. They played 20 games at home and 10 on the road but could not secure a win this season.

The Express started with 3 first-year players and 4 sophomores so they were not a very experienced team. Unfortunately, they ran into injuries and were without 2-3 starters for most of the season. Coach Jess Galatioto was more than pleased with the way her players stepped up to fill the roles of the injured starters. The Softball team had many substitutes as the year went on and the roster would change from game to game. Regardless of who was playing, Wells College would play hard and for each other until the last out.

Some bright spots for the season were first-year player Shay Gonzales. Shay hit .302 on the season with 9 RBIs. This season, Shay was also an anchor defensively at a short stop for the Express. Also, first-year pitcher Megan Litzenberger would throw 102.2 of the Express's 137 innings this season. Megan would also play first base and catcher when needed. Senior Jen McCumber hit .254 and lead the team with 6 doubles. Jen also pitched for the first time in her career for the Express this season!

Express softball will be back in 2023!
