Women's Tennis Earns 7-2 Victory vs. Lancaster Bible

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's tennis team picked up a 7-2 victory over visiting Lancaster Bible College on Friday. With the win, the Express move to 4-5 overall on the year and to 3-1 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Lancaster Bible dips to 2-8 on the season, moving to 1-4 against league opponents. 

Wells has now won 24 of its last 30 regular season conference matches dating back to the 2011-12 women's tennis season with the result. The Express have also defeated Lancaster Bible in all five of the all-time meetings between the two programs. 

The Express picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively, to earn a 2-1 lead through the first three matches of the day. Senior Kevisha Hunt (Germantown, Md.) partnered with junior Nicole Sanborn (Onondaga, N.Y.) to secure an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles before the tandem of sophomore Kamarie Maturine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and classmate Kate Wells (Gardner, Mass.) swept their match, 8-0. 

Senior Brooke Benedetto (Williamstown, N.Y.), who fell alongside partner Yuna Furusawa (Hirakata, Osaka, Japan) at No. 1 doubles, rebounded to earn a quality 6-2, 6-3 win at the top singles slot. Maturine earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles while Hunt closed her No. 3 singles match out strong with a 6-3, 6-0 result. 

Furusawa cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles while Wells swept the No. 6 singles match, using a 6-0, 6-0 score to bump the Express to its seventh victory of the day. 

Wells finishes the regular season of play with three-straight home matches, beginning with a Senior Day tilt against Penn St.-Berks this Saturday, Apr. 16 at 1 p.m. Hunt and Benedetto will be honored and recognized prior to the start of the match.
