Benedetto Collects NEAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Senior Brooke Benedetto (Williamstown, N.Y.) of the Wells College women's tennis team picked up North Eastern Athletic Conference West Division Women's Tennis Player of the Week after finishing the regular season strong, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Benedetto posted a 4-0 combined record in singles and doubles for Wells, helping the team to a 6-3 win over Keuka on Wednesday before defeating Penn College by a 7-2 margin on Saturday. Wells has wrapped up the No. 3 seed in the upcoming NEAC West Division Tournament and will take on Penn St.-Berks this Wednesday, Apr. 27 at 6 p.m.

Against Keuka, Benedetto joined teammate Yuna Furusawa at their team's top doubles position and defeated the Wolfpack duo by an 8-4 margin. Benedetto later cruised to a decisive 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles, earning two of her team's six points in the victory. Benedetto and Furusawa would go on to post an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles before wrapping up a 6-0, 6-3 win at the top singles position for the Express.

Her doubles victory against Keuka gave her 29 across her career, eclipsing Antoinette Ptak '84 who recorded at least 28 doubles wins from 1980 to 1983. While statistics from the early 1980's are considered partially incomplete, Benedetto is far and away the doubles wins leader for Wells in the NCAA Division III era (1986-present).

She enters this Wednesday's tournament with 30 career doubles wins and 29 career singles victories. A two-time team Most Valuable Player, Benedetto has won individual NEAC Championships at No. 2 singles, No. 4 singles and No. 1 doubles.
