'On This Day' Cooper Notches Second 30-Point Game of 16-17 Season

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Dec. 8, four years ago in 2016.

The Wells College women's basketball team wrapped up the first-semester portion of its 2016-17 season with a non-conference road game at Nazareth College on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2014.

For the second time this season, Ashida Cooper scored 30 or more points to lead the Express. She also led Wells in steals with five and free throws by going 10-of-12 in the contest. It was the fourth time in the team's seven contests so far this season that Cooper has scored 20 points or more.

Cooper's hot hand wasn't enough as Nazareth's 30 points from beyond the arc proved to be the difference. Carley Ryan and Shelby Medovich also scored in double-figures with 15 points each.

The Express defense helped cause 18 Nazareth turnovers. Wells had seven steals led by Cooper, while she also added four rebounds and three assists to go along with her points and steals. Medovich, Ryan, and Julia Smith had six rebounds each to lead Wells in that category.

The Express trailed 17-13 at after the first quarter and 33-22 at halftime. Nazareth extended its lead to 15 points after three and went on to an 88-67 win.

Wells made 18-of-24 free-throw attempts. Nazareth shot 52 percent from the floor, and 53 percent from 3-point range.
