Women’s Basketball Team Falls to Elmira in Home Opener

The Wells College women's basketball team fell to Elmira College in the team's home opener on March 5. The Express trailed by 10 points at the break before the Eagles finished the contest with a 57-33 advantage.

In her first collegiate game, freshman Morgan Adams (Waverly, N.Y.) recorded a double double with team highs in both points and rebounds for Wells. Adams finished the contest with a dozen points and 13 rebounds while adding a block and a steal. Included in her 12 points were one 3-pointer and three free throws.

Her work under the glass helped the Express maintain the edge in total team rebounds by a 38-34 margin. Wells also had a better shooting percentage from the charity stripe after going 9-of-13 from the foul line.

Also hitting double-digit points for Wells was Sonia Rivera (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 11 after knocking down three shots from outside the arc.

Another strong freshmen debut came from Lydia Thomas (Colton, N.Y.), who finished with seven points and seven rebounds. Rounding out the scoring for Wells was a pair from Kyra Pylinski (Burlington Flats, N.Y.) and one from Marissa Laird (Romulus, N.Y.).

Wells will complete a home-and-home with Elmira when the Express head on the road with a 1 p.m. start.
