'On This Day' Erkson Nets 1,000 Career Points in Record-Setting Team Performance

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Feb. 6, five years ago in 2016.

AURORA, N.Y. – Holli Erkson became the second student-athlete in the history of the Wells College women's basketball team to score at least 1,000 points on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016.

Erkson and the Express posted a decisive 96-44 victory over the Phoenix from Wilson College, moving to 12-7 overall on the year and to 8-4 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference.

Wells shattered its single-game program record for point scoring with 96 points while also setting records for field goals made (40) and field goals attempted (98). The team also combined for 65 rebounds, the third-most in a game for Wells dating back to the program's inception in 2010. Additionally, the team's 18 combined steals and 20 assists are the seventh and ninth most, respectively, in program history.

Entering the day with 985 career points to her credit, Erkson surpassed the 1,000-point threshold after collecting a cross-court pass from freshman Carley Ryan and pouring home a 3-point basket with 3:58 remaining in the third quarter. Finishing with 19 points, she enters the Express' next contest with 1,004 career points to place her second all-time in team history.

Across a 90-game career in a Wells uniform, Erkson ranks first all-time in 3-point baskets made (128), 3-point baskets attempted and free throw percentage (.779). She is second all-time in team history in assists (222), minutes played (2,706) and steals (152) with six regular season games to play.

In addition to leading the team with 19 points on Saturday, Erkson made a team-leading nine field goals (9-for-18) and posted three steals. Ashida Cooper finished with 16 points and a team-leading four steals while Shelby Medovich posted 15 points and nine rebounds. Vielka Barber and Jasmine Thomas rounded out the double-digit point scorers with 12 and 11 points off the bench, respectively. All 16 players scored at least two points and each player had at least one rebound in the contest.
