'On This Day' Medovich Joins Women’s Basketball’s 1,000-Point Club

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Jan. 18, two years ago in 2019.

AURORA, N.Y. - Wells College women's basketball senior Shelby Medovich reached a significant career milestone in a Friday, Jan. 18, 2019 game against Morrisville State. Medovich recorded her 1,000th career point as part of a 22-point night.

Medovich is the fourth player in Wells women's basketball history to reach 1,000 career points. She entered the game nine points shy of the plateau and now joins Ashida Cooper ('17), Holli Erkson ('16), and Ashley Roser ('14) in the 1,000-point club for the Express.

Wells led 25-22 at halftime led by Medovich's 11-point first half and 10 points from Carley Ryan. The Express maintained a 34-33 lead after three quarters, but Morrisville State outscored Wells 27-21 in the fourth quarter including a 9-for-14 effort at the free-throw line to take the contest by five points, 60-55.

Medovich finished with 22 points and Ryan had 19. Maritza Scharoun scored eight points and led Wells with 14 rebounds. Ryan added 12 rebounds.
