Express Men's Volleyball Heads To Wilkes

On Saturday the Wells Express traveled to Wilkes University for a doubleheader with Wilkes and Messiah.

The Express were coming off of their first win of the season, at home Friday night against Medaille College.

In the first match against Messiah, the Express got off to a slow start falling behind early 4-0. Despite some impressive kills from Riley Mahoney, the Express never caught up in the first set and fell 25-14. In the second set, the Express fell behind once again at the start 0-3. However, six straight serves from Christian Hahn helped give the express an advantage, 7-3. As the second set went back and forth, neither team was able to grab a lead larger than 2 points. In the end, a late kill from Connor Garvey was not enough to put the Express over the top and they fell behind 0-2 (25-23). In the final set, the Express found themselves down 19-13 and COnfidence Burrows rallied the express with his serves for a few consecutive points, but it was not enough as Messiah won 3 straight sets over the Express (25-18).

In the second match, the Express took on the host for the afternoon, Wilkes University. The first set found both teams tied at 10 points halfway through the set, Despite some late serve efforts from Ryan Nugent, the Express dropped a close first set by a score of 25-22. The second set actually saw Wells behind for most of the set until late. The Express was behind 18-12 and battled back to take a lead of 24-22 and eventually forced extra points. Late kills by Riley Mahoney, Ryan Nugent, and Connor Gravey weren't enough to put the Express over the top and they fell 29-27 in the second set. The third set saw a bit of fatigue from the Express playing its second match of the day but they battled nonetheless. Jumping out to an early 4-2 lead over Wilkes wasn't enough to hold onto as the Express fell in three straight sets by a score of (25-21).
